APPOINTMENT FAQ'S


HOW AND WHEN CAN I APPLY FOR COMMITTEE SERVICE?

AGS members who wish to serve on an AGS Committee can apply to serve a 3 year term starting in May of the upcoming year. All appointments for committee membership (including re-appointments, external liaison appointments, etc) are made at the beginning of the calendar year.

Required Documents:

  1. Completed Online Application Form
  2. Two recommendations from current Board and/or committee members
  3. A current CV and/or biographical sketch


HOW MANY YEARS CAN I SERVE ON A COMMITTEE?

The term for a Committee Member will be 3 years. A Committee member can reapply to serve up to a total of 3 terms (9 consecutive years).


WHAT ARE THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILTIES OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS?

CAN A SUBCOMMITTEE MEMBER BECOME A FULL COMMITTEE MEMBER?

Yes, Subcommittee members can apply to serve on a Committee using the "new" member process.

Required Documents:

  1. Completed Online Application Form
  2. Two recommendations from current Board and Committee members; one of which must be from the Chair of the Subcommittee of which s/he is a member
  3. A 2-page biographical sketch or short curriculum vitae


HOW CAN I REAPPLY FOR COMMITTEE SERVICE?

The Board will consider current Committee members (including Chairs and Vice Chairs) who are completing their first or second term for reappointment. Committee Chairs will be asked to evaluate Committee members and Vice Chairs seeking re-appointment and make recommendations.

  2. A 2-page biographical sketch or short curriculum


WHO MAKES DECISIONS ABOUT COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS AND REAPPOINTMENTS?

The AGS President and President-Elect make recommendations to the AGS Board about all Committee appointments.

Appointments are based on:

  1. Number of open seats.
  2. Need for specific types of committee members (e.g., interdisciplinary, researchers, clinicians)
  3. Nominating letters, interests, and cvs of candidates

Reappointments are based on:

  1. Number of open seats
  2. Prior contributions to Committee
  3. Need for specific types of Committee members (e.g., interdisciplinary, researcher, clinician)
  4. Committee Term Limits


HOW DO I APPLY FOR A DIFFERENT COMMITTEE THAN THE ONE I'M ON NOW?

The Board will consider appointing a Committee Member to another Committee at the end of his/her term on the current Committee.

Required Documents:

  1. Completed Online Application Form
  2. Letter from Current Committee Chair
  3. A 2-page biographical sketch or short curriculum vitae


HOW ARE EXTERNAL LIAISONS APPOINTED?

The Board will consider the appointment of External Liaison on an ongoing basis throughout the year. As above, external liaisons are limited to one term on a Committee unless strong reasons exist for additional terms. External Liaisons are eligible to apply as regular committee members via the Reappointment Process following their first term.

  1. Letter from the External Organization
  2. A current CV and/or biographical sketch

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THE AGS ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING?

  • All AGS Members are encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting
  • All physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, social workers, long-term care and managed care providers, health care administrators, and others who want to update their knowledge and skills through state-of-the-art educational sessions and research presentations
  • Fellows, Students, and Junior Faculty are encouraged to attend
