Key Elements:
- The letter should be short and concise, usually
under 150 words
- Reply with a brief recitation of the argument
you are opposing, statement of your own position, and presentation
of your evidence. Close with a short restatement of your position
- Use facts, figures, and expert testimony whenever
possible
- Be timely, respond to the editorial within
two to three days of the article’s publication
- Do not make personal attacks on the editor
- Letter should be type written, double or triple
spaced to fit on one page—single space if your letter is long
- Always include your name, address, day-time
phone number, and signature
