Letter to the Editor

Key Elements:

  1. The letter should be short and concise, usually under 150 words
  2. Reply with a brief recitation of the argument you are opposing, statement of your own position, and presentation of your evidence. Close with a short restatement of your position
  3. Use facts, figures, and expert testimony whenever possible
  4. Be timely, respond to the editorial within two to three days of the article’s publication
  5. Do not make personal attacks on the editor
  6. Letter should be type written, double or triple spaced to fit on one page—single space if your letter is long
  7. Always include your name, address, day-time phone number, and signature
