Barbara Resnick, AGS President, and Jennie Chin Hansen, AGS CEO, Participate in a Pfizer Grand Rounds Panel Session on Healthy Aging

Healthy aging was the topic of discussion at a recent Pfizer Medical Grand Rounds panel session at Pfizer Headquarters in New York City on June 28, 2011. AGS President, Barbara Resnick, PhD, CRNP, and AGS Chief Executive Officer, Jennie Chin Hansen, RN, MSN, took part in a panel discussion where they discussed a range of issues regarding the health and care of older adults and encouraged pharmaceutical companies to include this population in clinical trials. The panel included leaders of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA). Together, AGS and GSA explained how older adults are underrepresented in many drug trials, in spite of the fact that, according to the Center’s for Disease Control and Prevention, prescription drug use data for 2007-2008 show that among older Americans (aged 60 and older) more than 76 percent used two or more prescription drugs and 37 percent used
five or more.

Dr. Resnick continued the conversation with Jack Watters, MD, External Medical Affairs Vice President at Pfizer on Pfizer’s blog Think Science Now. Their conversation on healthy aging and how AGS and Pfizer might align to shape the research agenda and improve care for older adults, can be found at https://science.pfizer.com/.
