Geriatrics Education Coordinating Center and POGOe
The ADGAP/Reynolds Geriatrics Education Coordinating Center is funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and directed by Dr. Rosanne Leipzig from the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. The Reynolds Coordinating Center was established to serve as a central coordinating body for the work being done by grantees under a major Reynolds initiative that calls on the nation's academic health centers to undertake comprehensive programs to strengthen the training in geriatrics of medical students, residents and practicing physicians. Through its work, the Coordinating Center seeks to:
- facilitate interaction among the Reynolds Foundation grantees under its Geriatrics Development Initiative that encourages sharing of curriculum materials, successes, and lessons learned;
- provide a forum for presentation of materials and teaching methods developed by Reynolds Foundation grantees and others;
- provide a centralized mechanism for disseminating curriculum materials, lessons learned, successes, overall program impact to all geriatric medicine training programs and other interested organizations; and
- provide "one stop shopping" for a wide range of geriatrics training materials that are currently available.
In March 2006, the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation renewed funding for four more years for the ADGAP Geriatrics Education Coordinating Center (GECC). The activities over these four years will continue to enhance the Foundation's investment in its Comprehensive Programs to Strengthen Physicians' Training in Geriatrics.

In October 2008, the Reynolds Foundation announced the addition of a fourth cohort of grantees. In October 2009, all cohorts will gather for the annual grantee meeting in Las Vegas. Please see below for cohort lists. Click on the institution name to view its Reynolds website.

The next annual grantee meeting will be held October 21-23, 2009 at the J.W. Marriott in Las Vegas.
Portal of Geriatrics Online Education (POGOe)
In 2004, the Coordinating Center launched POGOe, the Portal of Geriatrics Online Education (www.POGOe.org). This constantly expanding online clearinghouse provides "one-stop-shopping" for geriatrics educators seeking high-quality training materials. POGOe has merged with the American Association of Medical College's GROW (Geriatrics Resources on the Web) site. Products listed on POGOe that have been submitted for peer-review by HEAL (Health Education Assets Library) and will be identified with a HEAL logo.
In Phase II of the grant, specific goals for POGOe incude:
- improve the technological infrastructure of POGOe so that it is more user friendly and conforms with state-of-the-art standards for online medical education portals;
- enhance the existing collaboration with MedEdPortal through collaborative efforts on peer review of geriatrics education projects;
- assure that all geriatric educational products developed by Reynolds grantees are available on POGOe and increase the site's overall collection of geriatrics medical education products and strategies;
- establish a formal mechanism for continuous feedback from the POGOe Advisory Board; and
- ensure that all Reynolds products are catalogued and expand our collaborative relationships with other groups looking to disseminate educational materials for all disciplines.
Consortium for Faculty Development to Advance Geriatric Education
In addition to the grants to strengthen geriatrics training at individual academic health centers, in July of 2004 the Foundation’s trustees awarded four grants totaling $12 million to train academic health centers’ faculty in geriatrics. The schools participating in the FD-AGE initiative participate in the annual meeting of the Reynolds Grantees.
