Selection Criteria

The Selection Committee will select participants on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Eligibility as described above.
  • Quality of the individual's leadership development plan including proposed coursework. Applicants do not have to present evidence that they have been accepted into a formal training program but should indicate their preferences for formal programs and their timeline for participation. If the proposed formal training is to occur outside the listed pre-approved programs, a description of the training program must accompany the application.
  • Local mentorship.
  • Commitment of local institution (as described by the sponsor/local mentor) to the individual and to geriatrics training, including a needs assessment of the geriatrics program and evidence of potential to plan and implement a realistic strategy to develop the program.
  • Quality of candidate as evidenced by prior academic geriatrics experience and letters of reference.

Talk with Program Alumni
We can arrange for potential scholars to speak with a Leadership Scholar to learn more about the program. If you would like to speak with a scholar, please contact Marianna Racz at mracz@americangeriatrics.org and she will match you with a Scholar and help to arrange a call.
