Report on Specter/Harkin Amendment

Senate Votes Yes on the Specter/Harkin Amendment

The week of March 13, 2006 Senators Arlen Specter (R-PA) and Tom Harkin (D-IA) proposed a Senate Budget amendment that would increase 2007 funding for health and education programs by $7 billion. The Senate passed the amendment by a vote of 73 to 27, click here to access a list of how Senators voted. Pending approval from the House of Representatives, the increase would restore overall health and education funding to 2005 levels.

In addition to encouraging members to engage in grass roots advocacy to get the amendment passed, we also worked with Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) on a letter to the president that she submitted to the Congressional Record on March 15, 2006. Click here to access the letter.
