Dear AGS Members in Indiana,

We are writing to invite you to become a founding member of the new Indiana Geriatrics Society (IGS), a state affiliate of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS). For the past five years we have had a dinner at the American Geriatrics Society Annual Scientific Meeting involving attendees from Indiana to develop relationships and begin to establish a network of individuals interested in the care of older Hoosiers. We have now begun the formal process of gaining provisional status as a state affiliate of AGS. The purpose of the Indiana Geriatrics Society would be to enhance the visibility of geriatric medicine in Indiana, to provide local educational programs in geriatrics, and to provide input to the national organization on policy issues.

The requirements for provisional status for a state affiliate include announcing the intent to organize an AGS affiliate in a letter sent to all AGS members in Indiana (this letter) and in the AGS Newsletter. We are also required to have at least one organizational meeting at which time we will appoint an official representative of IGS to serve as the contact person with the national office. Upon approval of provisional status, seed money will be sent to our affiliate to be used for organization of additional meetings, development of by-laws, and mailings to members and potential members.

Please complete the attached form to let us know of your interest in helping establish the Indiana Geriatrics Society, and if you are able to attend our first organizational meeting.
