Basic AGS Services Offered to Affiliates
Basic AGS National Support of all State Affiliates:
State Affiliate Start-Up Assistance
- Assistance during the organizational process, including help with articles of incorporation to open a bank account and gain tax-exempt status, help with the creation of by-laws, general job descriptions, a newsletter announcement of the intent to organize, and related activities
- $450 seed money upon approval of provisional status to be used for various start-up activities such as mailings, meetings, educational programs
- Upon approval of provisional status, AGS will provide a list of AGS members within the affiliate's state for recruitment purposes
- Online affiliate Toolkit which includes tips on the affiliate setup process, running meetings, membership strategies, advocacy, and other guidance topics
Ongoing Affiliate Resources Provided by National Office
- Programming and maintenance of an affiliate webpage listing: affiliate contact information, news, events and local advocacy resources
- Quarterly “Spotlight on Affiliates” section in the AGS List Serv, highlighting upcoming affiliate events and top stories
- Affiliate promotion in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Annals of Long-Term Care and Clinical Geriatrics on a rotating schedule
- Accounting assistance as needed by the affiliate
- Annual Affiliate Leadership Training Day held in conjunction with the AGS Annual Meeting in May
- One seat on COSAR: through which support of COSAR also includes:
- COSAR News, a quarterly email newsletter that will inform affiliate leaders about COSAR activities, projects and resources
- COSAR bi-annual meetings (face-to-face in May and virtual in November)
- COSAR Reception at May Annual Meeting
- Use of online Member Forums to exchange ideas, questions, information
