AGS State Affiliates | Find a Geriatrics Health Care Provider

COSAR Member Responsibilities

To strengthen reciprocal relationships between the state affiliate and the national organization in geriatrics, expectations of the State Affiliate Representatives include knowledge of the AGS mission, goals and strategic highways.

Each affiliate elects a representative to serve on the Council of State Affiliates.

State Affiliate Representatives Responsibilities:

  • Representation of their state or region via membership on the Council of State Affiliate Representatives (COSAR) and attendance at bi-annual meetings of the Council.
  • Work at the local level to assure that the Affiliate has a structure in place for identification and development of leaders, thereby assuring the long-term viability of the Affiliate.
  • If the Affiliate elects to utilize management services offered by AGS staff, they would be expected to assist in facilitation of interactions between the staff and affiliate leaders and members.
  • Respond to AGS staff queries in a timely manner.
  • Review agenda materials in advance of meetings and prior preparation of comments and ideas in order to enhance meeting productivity.
  • Develop and promote educational programs that advance interdisciplinary geriatric education.
  • Disseminate evidence-based clinical practice guidelines in geriatrics, as developed by the AGS.
  • Speak, or identify others who may be able to speak, on behalf of the affiliate and the AGS, with the media and other organizations that request local contacts as appropriate and, particularly, where your expertise fits the topic at hand.
  •  Setting goals and reporting progress for the affiliate.  While recognizing that each State Affiliate will have its own unique goals, AGS encourages COSAR to collectively set goals.  In advance of the AGS Annual Scientific Meeting, state representatives, in collaboration with their affiliate leadership, will be asked to identify areas for increased focus and achievement in the coming year.  Such activity will include regional collaboration of affiliates in areas of mutual interest.
