Learning Objectives: (1) utilize the AGS's Persistent Pain Guideline to assess pain in older patients, including those with cognitive impairment; (2) discuss the AGS Guideline's recommendations for the use of Nonopioid Analgesics, including acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in treating persistent pain and outline the risks of chronic NSAID use in older persons; and (3) discuss opioid options, when to transition, and issues of concern in various settings and circumstances.
