Opportunities for High Yield Research Collaborations on Older Patients with Emergency Conditions
Developed by Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) of SEGUE (Section for Enhancing Geriatric Understanding and Expertise among Surgical and Medical Specialists)
Moderator: Douglas K. Miller, MD
Learning Objectives: (1) describe the clinical implications of unrecognized delirium and other cognitive disturbances in emergency settings and identify potential approaches for their detection and management; (2) discuss potential approaches to identify risk factors for falls through valid screening procedures in emergency settings and to intervene to minimize adverse effects from these risks; (3) describe the role that the prehospital emergency care system can play to improve the timely, acute medical care and public health interventions provided to older adults; and (4) describe specific opportunities for improving medication selection and administration to enhance outcomes and reduce adverse effects in older ED patients.
