Vitamin D - Implementation of Higher-Than-RDA Dosing in a Nursing Home Chain

Learning Objectives: (1) prescribe appropriate amounts of vitamin D to maintain adequate vitamin D status in homebound nursing home residents; (2) develop a strategy for implementing facility(-ies)-wide standing interventions for vitamin D supplementation; (3) identify risk and benefits to prescribing vitamin D with and without calcium supplementation; and (4) construct a monitoring mechanism of compliance and impact of a vitamin D supplementation program that incorporates at least fall rates, fracture incidence, costs, and depressive symptoms.
