Learning Objectives: (1) appreciate the risks and benefits of an evidence-based consideration of surgery versus expectant management in the older male with prostate cancer; (2) consider the transition of care issues in acute operative plans of our older patients; (3) better understand outcomes of orthopedic surgery with a geriatric perspective; and (4) better appreciate the benefits of surgeons partnering with our geriatric colleagues to optimize perioperative outcomes.

This panel will address the case of Mrs. F. who is an 81 year old female who ambulates at baseline with a walker. While at her nursing home, she falls, hitting her head, has loss of consciousness, and has significant right hip pain. Together, the panelists will track this case from presentation at the ED through to discharge. They will address best practices that lead to improved outcomes and potentially reduce hospital re-admissions.
