Moderator: Laurie Gail Jacobs, MD, FACP, AGSF
Supported by an educational grant from Eisai. (intro)
Learning Objectives: (1) describe specific risk factors for VTE present in geriatric patients in different clinical contexts, including acute, skilled-nursing, and long-term care facilities; (2) identify appropriate candidates for VTE prophylaxis and the appropriate treatments, including nonpharmacologic, to do so; (3) evaluate different approaches to the diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in geriatric patients; and (4) be familiar with the use of anticoagulant agents for treatment (secondary prevention) of VTE including their dosing, administration (including the use of home care), and duration of treatment.
