Learning Objectives: (1) discuss the recommendations of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association (AHA) and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Guidelines and their effectiveness in managing AF to prevent stroke; (2) discuss the risks and benefits of treatment options, including warfarin alternatives; (3) describe the co-morbidities and geriatric syndromes common among older adults with AF and understand the need to take an individualized management approach to care; and (4) manage AF pharmacologically with the awareness of polypharmacy issues.
