What Event had Almost 300 People Tweeting In May?
#AGS13, that’s what. The #AGS13 hashtag is social media speak for the 2013 Annual Meeting of the American Geriatrics Society. Judging by the twitter traffic, our attendees were engaged with content and with each other – making great use of social media to get the word out about what excites them about geriatrics OR where to meet for coffee! Our “Twitterati” were not the only ones having fun. Over on Instagram, we debuted #facesofgeriatrics at the meeting. We challenged attendees to snap photos of each other and upload these to Instagram using our #facesofgeriatrics hashtag. Four days later, we had almost 400 pictures representing the diversity of geriatrics professionals.

Thank you to all the AGS meeting attendees who Tweeted and Instagrammed throughout the meeting. Together, our twitterati sent over 2,200 tweets – more than doubling our “tweet count” from #AGS12. We were excited to see that #AGS13 trended on Twitter on Saturday, May 4, which is pretty hard to do. We couldn’t have done that without you. It was great to see your tweets and how inspired many of you were by colleagues and how engaged you were with learning. We’ll be announcing our Twitter and Instagram contest winners next week. In the meantime, we wanted to leave you with some of our favorite quotes from the #AGS13 twitter stream:
