Junior Research Faculty Development & Workshop on Funding Your Work
Thursday, May 20th
The goal of the AGS SIG for Junior Research Faculty Development is to disseminate information and provide support to junior faculty who are pursuing a research career in academic geriatrics. This SIG meeting will also feature an informal workshop geared to fellows and junior faculty either planning or beginning careers in academic geriatric medicine and gerontology. The workshop will feature a series of first-person descriptions of how to apply and succeed at obtaining support for aging-related research during the crucial "transition years" from junior to senior faculty. As in past years, the intent is to provide an informal exchange in which previously successful applicants have felt comfortable sharing their personal experiences and "tips from the trenches" particular to each of approximately 15 different awards. At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: (1) describe what funding opportunities are available to junior research faculty; (2) discuss inside tips particular to each award that go beyond what one could learn from reading about the award on the web or in program literature; (3) decide for themselves which awards they should consider applying for, and when; and (4) describe what the AGS SIG for Junior Research Faculty Development is, and feel comfortable seeking more information from the members throughout the year.
