Fellows-in-Training Luncheon and Roundtable

The annual Fellows-in-Training luncheon will feature a panel presentation on the primary geriatric training concentrations: clinical care, research, and administration. The traditional roundtables will follow, giving attendees an opportunity to meet with leaders in geriatrics on a variety of topics such as job selection and balancing your personal and professional life.


Funding Your Work: Grants & Awards for Junior Faculty & Fellows

The purpose of this workshop is to provide junior faculty and fellows with current information about potential sources of research funding that will enable them to launch an academic career in geriatric medicine and aging research. An open question and answer period will follow. After this session, you will be able to 1) recognize the awards that are available for young investigators pursuing an academic career in geriatric medicine and aging research, 2) understand which awards are applicable to young investigators, based on their research interests and stage of their training/career, and 3) network with successful applicants and other young investigators pursuing an academic career in geriatric medicine and aging research.



Launching a Career in Academic Geriatrics:

This AFAR/Beeson Scholar sponsored workshop and reception is designed to introduce fellows/junior faculty to the numerous issues involved in the pursuit of an academic career. Topics to be covered include grants, mentorship, negotiating a job, and balancing career/family. Workshop hosts will be recent members of the junior faculty ranks. After this session, you will be able to 1) engage in discussions of the issues involved in an academic career with recent "junior" faculty in a small group setting, and 2) provide networking opportunities with fellows/junior faculty from a diverse array of university settings.
