AGS Teachers' Section

The AGS Teachers' Section was established more than 10 years ago as a special interest group to address the needs of clinician-educators within our society. It quickly grew in number of members and annual meeting activities. In recent years, the Teachers' Section has sponsored three symposiums and a business meeting at each meeting. Members of the Fellows-In- Training Section would be especially welcome at each of these events.

The three symposiums will be held at the annual meeting from 7:30 to 9:00 AM on Thursday through Saturday mornings. Each of the symposiums is designed as a workshop in which 8 leading geriatric medicine education programs will present their teaching innovations and materials. Much of the work presented during these sessions was developed by grants from the John A. Hartford Foundation and the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. The Thursday workshop will present a forum for teachers of undergraduate geriatrics education. The focus of the Friday session will be on graduate, residency, and fellowship geriatrics education. The final symposium on Saturday will present public and community-based provider geriatrics education. Each session will provide educators the opportunity to share topics and materials of common interest, such as program development, curriculum, educational process and research in teaching and evaluation.

The Teachers' Section will hold it's annual networking session from 9:30 - 11:00 AM on Saturday in the same assigned room as the earlier session on public and community-based provider geriatrics education. The content and activities of all these sessions should be of interest to geriatric medicine fellows.
