Sessions of Interest to Fellows-in-Training at the 2006 AGS Annual Meeting

Fellows - In - Training Breakfast
Thursday, May 4, 7:30 am - 9:00 am (Ticketed Session, no fee)
The annual Fellows-in-training Breakfast will feature Dr. Greg Sachs, of the University of Chicago, who will discuss the pressing need for geriatricians to be involved in public education, advocacy efforts, and political activity. While geriatricians are the most satisfied practitioners in medicine and there is seemingly unlimited demand for our services for the foreseeable future, there has been a major disconnect between the needs of the population and recent public policy. Cuts in Medicare reimbursement, NIH funding, and federal funding for geriatrics education should serve as a call to action for geriatricians. Dr. Sachs will discuss strategies for the future. The traditional roundtables will follow, giving attendees an opportunity to meet with geriatrics leaders and discuss a variety of topics, such as job selection and balancing personal and professional lives.

Pearls on Publishing and Reviewing Papers
Thursday, May 4, 7:30 am - 9:00 am
Presenters will explain which types of papers are most appropriate for the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and how articles should be submitted. They will also explain how reviews are conducted, what factors distinguish a "good" from a "bad" paper, and how editors examine manuscripts to determine if they should be accepted or rejected.

The AGS Clinical Research in Dementia (CRD) SIG's First Symposium: "Geriatric Medicine: Shaping the Future of Dementia Clinical Research"
Thursday, May 4, 3:00-4:30 pm
