What does AGSF Mean?
What do the letters AGSF after a member's name stand for?
The letters AGSF after a member's name means that s/he is a Fellow of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS).
What is AGS?
The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) is a not-for-profit organization of over 6,000 health professionals devoted to improving the health, independence and quality of life of all older people. The Society provides leadership to healthcare professionals, policy makers and the public by implementing and advocating for programs in patient care, research, professional and public education, and public policy.
What does becoming an AGS Fellow mean?
Fellowship status is awarded to American Geriatrics Society members who have demonstrated a professional commitment to geriatric medicine, contributed to the progress of geriatric care, and are active participants in the Society's activities. Attaining AGSF status within the Society places members in a specially recognized group of healthcare providers who are dedicated to continuing education in geriatrics, teaching and research. They have distinguished themselves among their colleagues, as well as in their communities and the Society by their service. Their dedication and longstanding commitment to AGS is appreciated by this mark of distinction.
What does being an AGSF tell us about a member?
- The member has been recognized by other geriatrics healthcare providers for excellence and skill in medical practice, teaching or research.
- The member has demonstrated continuing scholarship and professional accomplishments.
- The member has contributed to the Society's mission and goals.

AGSF Application Process and Timeline
You are eligible to apply for AGS Fellowship if you are currently an Active Member of the AGS and have been an Active Full Member of the AGS for at least 5 years and have attended at least 3 Annual Meetings. To sustain AGSF status, you must continue your membership with the AGS.
To be considered for the status of AGS Fellow, an applicant must:
- Complete the Online Application or mail in a completed application form. (Complete only the items that apply)
- Provide two letters of recommendation by members of the Society in good standing (members for at least three years, Fellows of the Society encouraged) endorsing the applicant's advancement to Fellowship status.
- Submit a $50 application fee via check made out to the American Geriatrics Society.
Please Note
- Only completed applications will be sent to the Fellowship Review Committee for consideration for AGSF Status. Those applications that are deemed eligible are then forwarded to the AGS Board for final review/approval of AGSF status.
Timeline
- Applications received by March 15th will be considered for AGSF status commencing in May. These applicants will be notified in May of the status of their application.
- Applications received by September 15th will be considered for AGSF status commencing in November. These applicants will be notified in December of the status of their application.
