AGS Mentoring Programs
The AGS offers many opportunities for trainees and junior faculty to connect with active members of the AGS who serve as mentors. AGS mentors offer invaluable advice concerning educational and career choices. Mentoring relationships can be particularly important for healthcare trainees, who are presented with a wide array of options that help determine the focus of their careers. Mentoring happens in both formal and informal settings:
One-on-One AGS Mentoring Program
The One-on-One AGS Mentoring Program matches students, residents and junior faculty with senior geriatrics faculty from across the country. The program mentees the opportunity to meet with mentors during the AGS Annual Meeting and discuss such topics as: starting an academic career, locating research funding, learning more about geriatric practice and administration, and balancing career demands with a successful family life.
AGS Local Mentoring Program
The AGS Local Mentoring Program pairs students, residents and other trainees interested in careers in geriatrics with AGS members based on the mentee's career goal and geographic location. Mentees will be put in touch with a leader in their geographic area or area of interest. Pairs may communicate in person, by telephone or via email.
