The AGS Foundation for Health in Aging will celebrate a year of extraordinary individual and collective accomplishments on behalf of older adults and their caregivers at its Fourth Annual Lifetime of Caring Gala, set to take place on Monday, October 27, 2003, at 6:30 p.m. at The Plaza in New York.
FHA will present its Fourth Annual Lifetime of Caring Award to Ambassador Corinne "Lindy" Boggs for her extraordinary and inspirational life. The Lifetime of Caring Award pays tribute to individuals who, through extraordinary personal example or exemplary public service, philanthropy or research, have made a significant contribution to care, not only for our older loved ones, but also for ourselves as we age. In 1939, following the death of her husband Congressman Hale Boggs, Lindy Boggs was elected to her late husband's seat and served nine terms in the House of Representatives from Louisiana. In 1997, Lindy Boggs was bestowed the honorable role of Ambassador to the Holy See. Past recipients include President Jimmy Carter and Mrs. Rosalynn Carter and renowned poet Maya Angelou.
Raymond V. Gilmartin, Chairman, President and CEO of Merck & Co., Inc., will receive the Discovery Award for outstanding, philanthropic and civic leadership, and for Merck's commitment to the well-being of older adults, their families and the community in which they live.
The Gala's Co-Chairs are Peter K. Miller, President, Janssen Pharmaceutica Inc., Karen Katen, President, Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals, and Carrie Cox, Executive Vice President and President, Global Pharmaceuticals, Schering-Plough Corporation.
The evening, to be hosted by Cokie Roberts, daughter of Lindy Boggs, will also feature a superb New Orleans dinner and music by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Individual tickets are available for $500 and $1000. For further information, please contact Sara Levandusky at (212) 755-6810.
To attend as a member of the press, please contact Pamela Ingham or Scott Kramer at (212) 308-1414.
