New York, NY- The newly revised 2006-2007 print edition of Geriatrics at Your Fingertips (GAYF)-the American Geriatrics Society's acclaimed, compact guide to the health care needs of older adults-is now available.
In this new version, Drs. David Reuben, Keela Herr, Jim Pacala, Jane Potter, Bruce Pollock, and Todd Semla have assessed key advances in geriatrics in 2004 and incorporated them with a focus on simplicity and relevance to practice. Like its predecessors, this edition incorporates the latest recommendations from clinical guidelines released in the past year and features prescribing recommendations for medications released as recently as November 2005.
New features include information on Medicare's new prescription drug benefit; dysphagia; irritable bowel syndrome; orthostatic hypotension; plantar fascitis; rheumatoid arthritis and treatment of early-stage prostate cancer.
With over 15,000 copies of the pocket-sized print edition sold annually, GAYF is a must-have clinical tool for those in the field. It covers assessment, recommended diagnostic tests, management strategies, and both pharmacological and non-pharmacologic therapies recommended specifically for older adults. GAYF also includes invaluable and easy-to-read tables, algorithms, and lists, and a detailed index. An abridged table of contents on the back cover quickly directs readers to the most frequently referenced topics. An appendix of assessment instruments and a list of key telephone numbers and Web sites further enhance the guide's utility.
"Every prescriber and practitioner caring for older persons will find this book a boon companion," David O. Staats, MD, wrote in a 5-star review of GAYF for Doody's Electronic Journal.
