Geriatric Medicine Training and Practice in the United States at the beginning of the 21st Century (July 2002)
ADGAP Report: GME Must Prepare All Physicians to Care for the Aged. (February 2004)
Longitudinal Study of Training and Practice in Geriatric Medicine
In July 2000, ADGAP received a two-year grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation to establish a longitudinal database on the training and practice of geriatric medicine. The database project is based at the University of Cincinnati's Institute for Health Policy and Health Services Research (IHPHSR) and directed by Gregg A. Warshaw, MD with the assistance of Elizabeth Bragg, PhD, RN. As a result of this project five national surveys were conducted, secondary data from numerous sources were collected, and a final report was written. This report, "Geriatric Medicine Training and Practice in the United States at the Beginning of the 21st Century", is available by clicking on the link above. Seven articles have been published, including “Academic Geriatric Programs in United States Allopathic and Osteopathic Medical Schools” (JAMA 2002;288:2313-2319). A full listing of the bibliography is available at www.ihphsr.uc.edu/ADGAP. On November 1, 2002, The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation awarded a second three-year grant to ADGAP to maintain and further develop the database.
So that current data regarding the status of geriatric medicine education and practice would be readily available, The Association of Directors of Geriatric Academic Program (ADGAP) began electronically publishing quarterly reports in 2003. These reports are part of ADGAP’s Longitudinal Study of Training and Practice in Geriatric Medicine.
