NEWLY FOUNDED HARTFORD LEADERSHIP PROGRAM SEEKS TO IMPROVE MEDICAL EDUCATION IN GERIATRICS TRAINING

New York, NY––The John A. Hartford Foundation, Inc. has awarded a grant of $1,800,000 to the Association of Directors of Geriatric Academic Programs (ADGAP) in order to foster improved medical education in geriatrics training. The grant will fund the newly created Hartford Leadership Program, which will train new geriatrics program leaders and enhance leadership skills for current leaders.

The program will select six new geriatrics program leaders annually to be Hartford Leadership Scholars. The scholars will receive intensive training, including formal coursework in leadership skills, local and national mentorship, and peer support. In addition, all program directors will have the opportunity to improve their leadership skills by attending annual leadership retreats.

By strengthening the skills of geriatrics leaders, the Program will improve geriatrics training programs, and ultimately increase academic training, research and clinical care resources in geriatrics.

To receive an application for the Hartford Leadership Program, please visit the American Geriatrics Society website at www.americangeriatrics.org, or contact Deirdre Terry, ADGAP Administrator, c/o the American Geriatrics Society, The Empire State Building, 350 Fifth Avenue, Suite 801, New York, NY 10118.
