The American Geriatrics Society aspires to become a worldwide voice for the field of geriatrics. The Society currently has just under 600 international (non-U.S.) members. In 1998 the AGS created the Special Interest Group (SIG) on International Activities to enable geriatrics professionals from around the world to exchange information and experiences from different systems, environments and cultures.
The SIG on International Activities held its inaugural meeting during the 1998 AGS Annual Meeting in Seattle, and continues to do hold meetings every year. The SIG meetings are attended by geriatrics health care professionals from the U.S., France, Italy, Ireland, England, Australia, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Venezuela, Israel, Canada, and Guam.
