Career Development Program Aimed at Junior Level Physician/Scientists
New York, NY-The American Geriatrics Society's Foundation for Health In Aging (FHA) is pleased to announce the Hartford Geriatrics Health Outcomes Research Scholars Awards Program. Created by the John A. Hartford Foundation and the FHA to support outcomes research in geriatric medicine, the awards will provide funding for up to four individuals holding MD or DO degrees in addition to full-time assistant professorships at U.S. medical schools.
Outcomes research is defined as the study of functional status, impairments, perceptions, social opportunities and health services utilization that are influenced by disease, injury, treatment or health policy. The grant will provide $65,000 a year for two years of study to junior faculty members who intend to conduct this type of research in older adults and have expertise and interest in the field.
"The project will be instrumental in supporting young investigators at a critical juncture in their careers-the transition from junior faculty to independent researcher," said Eric Coleman, MD, who sits on the program's selection committee.
In keeping with the program's mission to support truly junior faculty at an early stage of independent research, eligible candidates will have held appointments at the level of assistant professor for a maximum of two years on July 1, 2005, the date the grant becomes effective.
The application deadline is January 15, 2005. Please visit www.healthinaging.org for an award overview or to request an application.
