AGS Staff Raise $4 K for FHA Student Researcher Fund in Chase Corporate Challenge

Seventeen American Geriatrics Society and Foundation for Health in Aging staffers ran, jogged and walked through 3.5 miles of Central Park in the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge in New York City in June. In the process, they raised $4,000 for the FHA's Student Researcher Fund.

The Fund, one of AGS' recruitment tools, provides travel stipends to students invited to present their research at the Student Poster Session during AGS' Annual Scientific Meeting. Nearly 140 students presented research at the Student Poster Session during the 2009 Meeting in Chicago.

Thanks to the many members of the AGS community who supported the runners, joggers, walkers -- and students!

Anne Marie Evriviades, Coordinator, Public Affairs & Advocacy, left the AGS in August to pursue a Masters in Social Work, with a focus on gerontology, at Boston College.

"The program offers a unique opportunity to concentrate in older adults and families," says Ms. Evriviades. "My ultimate objective is to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to the aging population in a long-term care setting. I also plan to continue to contribute to the initiatives of the AGS as a student member."

Evriviades, who joined AGS in July, 2007, describes her time with the Society as "transformational."

"I have been privileged to work under the mentorship of the AGS senior staff, Board and Committees and have been truly inspired by their commitment to promoting health in aging," she says. "Together, these influential factors have helped me to recognize the potential and importance of my contributions as a geriatrics health care provider. I look forward to this educational opportunity and am confident that it will prepare me to assume the roles of both clinician and patient advocate."
