Practicing Physician and Patient Tools

Developed with funds from the Geriatrics Education for Specialty Residents Program:

Other Resources:

  • Clinical Case Study - A case written by Myron Miller, MD which includes the ten specialties in the GSI project.

  • Practicing Physician Education in Geriatrics - Tool kits to help physicians better understand the common 'Geriatric Syndromes,' developed for the Practicing Physician Education Project supported by a grant from the John A. Hartford Foundation through the American Geriatrics Society.

  • Geriatrics at Your Fingertips (GAYF) - A pocket guide that provides immediate access to specific information needed to care for older adults in various health care settings. In this 9th edition, we have added new sections on abdominal aortic aneurysm, dyspnea, euthyroid sick syndrome, knee pain and prostatitis, and have completely revised the CMS guidance on unnecessary drugs in nursing homes, based on new guidelines released in December 2006. The goal of GAYF is to reduce to a minimum the amount of time that a practicing clinician must spend searching for specific information that is needed immediately to make patient care decisions.

  • POGOe - A geriatric education online clearinghouse. POGO provides high quality educational materials for practicing physicians, clinician educators and physicians in training.

  • AGS Health Links - Links from the American Geriatrics Society's homepage

  • Geriatrics - An online journal which provides resources such as articles, editorials, and exercises focusing on geriatrics.

  • GeriatricWeb - Creates a web-based geriatric digital library to be used in the education of health care professionals and in the clinical care of the older patient.
