Opportunity Description:

The BRAIN Initiative (BRAIN–Healthy Ready for Acute & INpatient Dementia Care), led by the GEDC in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Association and West Health, is identifying hospitals with practical, field-tested innovations in dementia and delirium care.

We are seeking “Bright Spot” hospitals that have implemented real-world solutions in ED and inpatient units in areas such as:

  • Delirium screening, prevention, and management
  • ED discharge pathways for patients with cognitive impairment
  • Boarding strategies that improve safety and experience
  • Caregiver support practices embedded in acute workflows

Selected Bright Spot Hospitals will:

  • Receive national recognition as leaders in dementia-capable care
  • Be featured in national dissemination efforts
  • Help shape emerging best practices
  • Participate in peer-to-peer learning through a Best Practice Accelerator Community

Participation is designed to respect clinical and operational bandwidth and includes:

  • One initial conversation with the Core Team
  • One 60–90 minute virtual design team interview
  • Four virtual Best Practice Accelerator Community sessions
  • Optional opportunity to co-present in a webinar or adoption workshop

No PHI is collected, and no new data infrastructure is required.

If your hospital has developed an innovation that could benefit peer institutions, we would love to connect. Contact us at aostberg@email.unc.edu to let us know you’re interested and briefly describe what your site does to support brain-healthy care in ED or inpatient units.
