Warning: "American Board of Geriatrics"

The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) has recently learned that physicians are receiving letters from a purported medical organization called the “American Board of Geriatrics.” That entity is not affiliated in any way with the AGS; any form of certification or recognition from that entity is not recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or its approved member specialty boards; and the AGS does not recognize any designation or appointment by the “American Board of Geriatrics” as evidence of certification in geriatrics or in its consideration for advancement to Fellow status in the Society.

The AGS urges all of its members to carefully read any correspondence from the “American Board of Geriatrics” and to exercise caution in evaluating any offers to sell “diplomate” or “fellow” status in an organization.
