Clinician-Scientists Transdisciplinary Aging Research (Clin-STAR) Program

Opportunity Description:

The Clinician-Scientists Transdisciplinary Aging Research (Clin-STAR) Program is offering up to 10 travel awards to early-stage clinician-scientists who could benefit from the opportunities provided by the ClinSTAR Annual Meeting. The travel award (up to $1,500 per person) is intended to cover travel to and from the meeting, meeting meals and hotel accommodations. Successful applicants should be conducting basic, translational, clinical, or patient-oriented aging research in their discipline/specialty.

The Clin-STAR Coordinating Center provides a national platform for clinician-scientists focusing their careers on aging research to improve patient-centered care for older adults across specialties and disciplines. Although important progress has been made through initiatives that integrate geriatrics and aging research into the medical, surgical, and other clinical disciplines, further significant commitment is needed to train the future leaders in aging research. The Clin-STAR Coordinating Center accelerates these efforts by offering activities and resources for the cultivation, connection, and synergy of clinicianscientists from disparate disciplines and institutions across the U.S.

The Clin-STAR Annual Meeting abuts the highly successful Beeson Meeting which convenes recipients of The Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging (K76). The annual Clin-STAR meeting supports the mission of the NIA by fostering the development of clinician-scientists in aging, and by providing a platform for exchanging and disseminating information about aging/geriatrics and advances in aging research to the scientific community.

This year’s meeting will be held November 15-17, at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort, San Diego, California. There are typically about 50 participants, which include 2022 and 2021 Grants for Early Medical and Surgical Specialists’ Transition to Aging Research (GEMSSTAR) Awardees, Clin-STAR Core Leadership, other investigators in aging research, and NIA staff. A preliminary program may be accessed at this link: https://clin-star.org/annual-meeting.
