Opportunity Description:
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is inviting feedback from the research community, stakeholders, and the public as it begins developing its next agency-wide Strategic Plan, which will guide NIH’s priorities and work over the next five years. Community input will help ensure transparency and support the advancement of gold-standard science that drives NIH’s mission.
The purpose of the NIH-Wide Strategic Plan is to communicate how NIH will advance its mission to support research in pursuit of fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems, and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability.
The current NIH-Wide Strategic Plan, covering FY21-FY25, was submitted to Congress in July 2021. As part of implementing the 21st Century Cures Act (P.L. 114-255), NIH will update its Strategic Plan, no less than once every six years. The agency is currently developing the NIH-Wide Strategic Plan for FY27-FY31 and anticipates releasing it early FY27.
To gather feedback, NIH will host public webinars where leadership will introduce the strategic planning process, share the preposed high-level framework, and answer questions from attendees.
Upcoming webinar:
- April 8, 2026 | 2:30-3:30 PM ET
Those interested are encouraged to attend one of the sessions and share their perspectives to help inform the development of NIH’s next Strategic Plan and shape the future of biomedical research at NIH. All comments must be submitted electronically on the submission website.
