New York (May 7, 2024) — Mark A. Supiano, MD, AGSF will step into the role of President of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) at the 2024 AGS Annual Scientific meeting which is taking place virtually May 9-11, 2024 (pre-conference days May 7-8). An AGS member since 1985, Mark has held many leadership roles within the Society, including: Program Chair of the 2006 AGS Annual Scientific Meeting, Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS) from 2000 to 2005, and President of the Association of Directors of Geriatric Academic Programs from 2013 to 2015.

Currently, Dr. Supiano is the University of Utah Geriatrics Division Research co-chief and Executive Director of its Center on Aging. His clinical interests include providing comprehensive geriatric assessment consultations with a particular interest in high blood pressure and disorders of blood pressure regulation. Throughout his career, Mark has responded to the demographic imperative of aging in his clinical practice, in conducting person-oriented clinical research, and in medical education.

As outgoing AGS president, Dr. Fick becomes Chair of the AGS Board of Directors when Dr. Supiano assumes his new post. The other Board members that serve as officers of the Society are Paul Mulhausen, MD, MHS, FACP AGSF (President-Elect), Alison Moore, MD, MPH, FACP, AGSF (AGS Treasurer), and Judith L. Beizer (Judy), PharmD, BCGP, FASCP, AGSF (Board Secretary). G. Michael Harper, MD, AGSF, FACP, the outgoing AGS Board Chair, is finishing his term on the Board at this meeting. Dr. Harper has been an AGS member for 28 years, and has served on the AGS Board since 2014. On the Board, he served as AGS Treasurer, President-Elect, and President, before becoming Board Chair.
