In Phase Three, the GWEP-CC will offer two Age-Friendly Health Systems (AFHS) Action Communities. The GWEP-CC will host a traditional action community, and then a second cycle action community that will run continuously through the end of Phase Three. Our target goal is that GWEPs will enroll primary care partners teams into the GWEP-CC Action Community regardless of when the partnerships are established.
The GSI’s Jahnigen Career Development Awards (JCDA) program, and its sister program, the T. Franklin Williams program, formerly of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM), were funded by The John A. Harford Foundation and Atlantic Philanthropies from 2002-2015. Both programs offered awards to early career physician-scientists and researchers from more than 23 surgical and related medical subspecialties and internal medicine subspecialties. More than 200 Jahnigen and Williams Scholars received funding to conduct geriatrics research related to their specialties.
The AGS/AGING Learning, Educating, And, Researching National Initiative in Geriatrics (“LEARNING”) Collaborative, an R25 grant from the National Institute on Aging (NIA), has been awarded to the American Geriatrics Society in partnership with the Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN)-Older Americans Independence Centers (OAICs) AGING (Advancing Geriatrics Infrastructure and Network Growth)

The goal of the AGS Older Adults Vaccine Initiative is to increase immunization rates in older adults who are eligible for routine vaccinations in the United States. The AGS Older Adults Vaccine Initiative is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award to the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), with 100 percent funded by CDC/HHS.

In 2021, ADGAP, in collaboration with AGS, launched an initiative on Making the Business Case for Geriatrics. Under this initiative, AGS/ADGAP are building three resources to support AGS/ADGAP members: (1) a longitudinal benchmarking study (in partnership with Phairify); (2) a toolkit to provide members with tools and resources for making the business case for geriatrics; and (3) a webinar series on Geriatrics and the Changing Landscape of Healthcare.

Building on the #AGS22 ADGAP pre-conference that was focused on the business case, AGS/ADGAP are offering a webinar series that is focused on Geriatrics and the Changing Landscape of Healthcare launched in Fall 2022. This series will provide an overview of the changing health care environment in ways that impact care for older adults, including geriatrics care and payment models.

The 2023 Call for Abstract Submissions is now closed (the deadline to submit an abstract was December 1, 2022). AGS opens the call for abstracts each fall. More information can be found here.

AGS is seeking nominations to fill open seats on the AGS Board of Directors. The ideal Board candidate will share the Society’s commitment to improving the health, independence, and quality of life of all older people.
AGS is seeking candidates for an AGS-Board designated ex officio seat for a practicing geriatrics health professional. Under the AGS By-laws, the AGS Board has the flexibility to designate up to four ex-officio Board seats based on its assessment of the need for individuals with important perspectives that may not be represented among the elected Board members. Due to several elected Board members rotating off the Board, the Board is eager to ensure that it has the perspective of someone who is primarily in clinical practice.
AGS is seeking Applications for its nine AGS Standing Committees for three-year-terms beginning in May of 2025. The ideal applicant will share the Society’s commitment to improving the health, independence, and quality of life of all older people.
