 New York, NY (August 5, 2024) - The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) proudly announces the release of the Assisted Living Nursing Syllabus (ALNS), a vital resource designed to enrich the knowledge and practices of nurses and other members of the health care team working in assisted living communities as well as teaching providers who will work in these communities. This digital syllabus is a collaborative effort by leading geriatrics and assisted living experts, featuring 50 chapters divided into six key sections: Assisted Living Setting, Management and Leadership, Approach to the Patient and Philosophies of Care, Syndromes, Psychological Health, and Diseases and Disorders.

New York, NY (April 7, 2025) —The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) and the AGS Health in Aging Foundation announced the recipients of the Arti Hurria Award today — Brienne Miner, MD, MHS and Melisa Wong, MD, MAS, AGSF. Miner is an Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine in Geriatrics at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, CT and Wong is a Research Scientist II in the Division of Research at Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC) and Associate Adjunct Professor in the Division of Geriatrics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Drs. Miner and Wong will receive Arti Hurria Memorial Awards for Emerging Investigators in Internal Medicine who are focused on Care of Older Adults at the AGS 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting (#AGS25), held May 8 – 10 in Chicago, Illinois (pre-conference day May 7).

New York (April 9, 2025) — The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) today announced Rebecca Conant, MD, as 2025 Clinician of the Year. Dr. Conant, Professor of Medicine in the Geriatrics Division at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and Medical Director of the UCSF Care at Home Program, will be honored at the 2025 AGS Annual Scientific Meeting (#AGS25) happening May 8 – 10 (pre-conference day: May 7) in Chicago, IL.

April 10, 2025 — The National Lipid Association (NLA) and the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) have released a Joint Scientific Statement focused on the management of hypercholesterolemia in adults older than 75 years who do not have a history of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).  Published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and the Journal of Clinical Lipidology, this collaborative effort, developed by a diverse team of clinical lipidologists, cardiologists, geriatricians, and pharmacists, offers evidence-based guidance to help clinicians navigate the complexities of cholesterol management in a growing population of older adults.

“Older persons have many competing medical and social needs, so treating high cholesterol in those without cardiovascular disease may not always be straightforward for clinicians and patients,” said Vera Bittner, MD, MSPH, MNLA, co-chair of the scientific statement. “We hope to help provide as much clarity as possible.”
