Alina Sibley, APRN, BC
The Choosing Wisely Champions program helps expand the Choosing Wisely campaign by highlighting stories of clinicians whose leadership in choosing tests and treatments wisely has inspired others to promote high-quality, person-centered care. For the 2018 award, the AGS congratulates Alina Sibley, APRN, BC, a member of the Baystate Medical Center Geri-Pal interprofessional outpatient team.
Under Ms. Sibley's leadership, Baystate's Geri-Pal team has served over 500 patients in the community—making home visits, providing consultative ambulatory care, educating patients and families, and providing care coordination—with a pivotal focus on advanced care planning and person-centered treatment for people with dementia. The team also has facilitated training for nurses and other Baystate staff, which has helped to reduce the use of restraints, antipsychotics, and benzodiazepines—a critical priority from the AGS Choosing Wisely recommendations—in the health system’s Acute Care For Elders program. What’s more, caregiver and patient guidance and symptom management coaching provided by Ms. Sibley and the Baystate Geri-Pal team has contributed to decreased caregiver stress and a lower likelihood for prescribing potentially inappropriate medications. The AGS applauds Ms. Sibley and her team for these efforts.
